STEEL SHOTS
Steel shot is made from spherical steel in fully heat-treated condition. This gives it optimum
resilience and resistance to fatigue. Most wheel blast applications use steel shot. It is widely
used because it has a high level of cleaning efficiency and economical cost. It is used in shot
peening applications as well. Its durability and corrosion resistance make it a good choice for
blast cleaning and descaling applications.
A popular method for increasing the fatigue life of steel shots is shot peening. Shot peening
involves bombarding small balls of iron or steel shot on the surface of the component. This
method is applicable to all kinds of metal and component geometries. The effect of peening is to
increase the surface layer's resistance to lateral expansion and compression. A residual
compression can occur, depending on the size and velocity of the steel shot.
